Mirka Jablonski joined Team Portland in 2013 after completing a yearlong VTS fellowship. She was first introduced to VTS while managing the library at Forest Park Elementary School. As librarian and VTS school lead, Mirka had the opportunity to work across grade levels and across content areas and observe VTS shift both teaching practice and student thinking throughout the school. Mirka’s appreciation for this transformative approach, asking students to look closely, think critically, and engage in meaningful discussion, led her to her current role.

After earning her degree in fine art and art history from the University of Minnesota, Mirka interned and worked at the Walker Art Center, and has taught visual arts to both children and adults. Mirka believes this is a particularly dynamic moment to be working in Portland when equity initiatives, which align so beautifully with VTS, take center stage.
